Mathematics is the body of knowledge centered on such concepts as quantity, structure, space, and change, and also the academic discipline that studies them. Benjamin Peirce called it "the science that draws necessary conclusions". [2] Other practitioners of mathematics maintain that mathematics is the science of pattern, and that mathematicians seek out patterns whether found in numbers, space, science, computers, imaginary abstractions, or elsewhere. [3][4] Mathematicians explore such concepts, aiming to formulate new conjectures and establish their truth by rigorous deduction from appropriately chosen axioms and definitions. [5]Through the use of abstraction and logical reasoning, mathematics evolved from counting, calculation, measurement, and the systematic study of the shapes and motions of physical objects. Knowledge and use of basic mathematics have always been an inherent and integral part of individual and group life. Refinements of the basic ideas are visible in mathematical texts originating in the ancient Egyptian, Mesopotamian, Indian, Chinese, Greek and Islamic worlds. Rigorous arguments first appeared in Greek mathematics, most notably in Euclid's Elements. The development continued in fitful bursts until the Renaissance period of the 16th century, when mathematical innovations interacted with new scientific discoveries, leading to an acceleration in research that continues to the present day.[6] Today, mathematics is used throughout the world in many fields, including natural science, engineering, medicine, and the social sciences such as economics and psychology. Applied mathematics, the application of mathematics to such fields, inspires and makes use of new mathematical discoveries and sometimes leads to the development of entirely new disciplines. Mathematicians also engage in pure mathematics, or mathematics for its own sake, without having any application in mind, although applications for what began as pure mathematics are often discovered later.[7] The word "mathematics" comes from the Greek µ???µa (máthema), which means learning, study, science, and additionally came to have the narrower and more technical meaning "mathematical study", even in Classical times. Its adjective is µa??µat???? (mathematikós), related to learning, or studious, which likewise further came to mean mathematical. In particular, µa??µat??? t???? (mathematik? tékhne), in Latin ars mathematica, meant the mathematical art.

1. Times Tables - The Worst Way to Teach Multiplication
November 18, 2008
Learning the "multiplication tables" is one of the first traumas that children usually face when learning arithmetic. Ask ten elementary-school kids to tell you what, say, eight times seven is. Watch as they look up and to their left (or right) and go into, "let's-see" mode. Often you'll hear them say, "Um, ah..." before give you the answer. Generally, there's a lot of hesitation. Only then, do they actually give you the answer. Sometimes it's even correct. I know, I was one of them. Maybe you were, too. Most children are victimized by the thoughtless, authoritarian, wrong way to t... (read more)

8. Is dissertation writing a self-directed process?
October 22, 2008
Dissertations are admittedly lengthy (although many of us have heard the stories of doctoral candidates in science and mathematics who present just a single perfect equation and are simply awarded their degree). A dissertation is commonly defined as long pieces of writings on a specific subject. This definition lacks in many ways and just does not attempt to answer the whole lot of struggle that goes into the making of a dissertation. Presently this trend is more noticeable in shorter. Moreover it’s not common for a dissertation to exceed more than 300 pages. Yes! Very much dissertation wri... (read more)

1: Make sure that the decimals to be added have the same number of digits After the decimal point. IF NOT, remember to add zeroes to make them equal. Example: Add 0.345 and 2.37.

12. How You Can Measure The Size Of Planets
October 16, 2008
Ever wondered how scientists came up with planet sizes? It's not like somebody took a really long measuring tape and wrapped this around one planet to take its specs, right? Well, it has to do with mathematics and the gift of observation.
Distance did it Back in the day, it was Copernicus who found out how to compute the approximate distance between planets by using trigonometry. It was discovered that the distances were all relative to the distance between the Sun and our planet Earth, called the astronomical unit. Only problem was, the scientists during that time didn't know the figure... (read more)

Mathematics is the universal language. This is a statement that many people use because mathematics cannot be twisted and turned into what you want it to be and there is a unique solution for every problem. No matter the method used, the outcome is the same.
There are a few geometrical figures in this world that have been depicted as sacred geometry. Among them we can name the Seed of Life, the Flower of Life, the Tree of Life, the Fruit of Life and a few more, symbols that people believe to hold the answers to a lot of things.
The names for these symbols have been attributed to them... (read more)

It's not a mystery. It's just simple mathematics and consumer logic.
