In geography, a marsh, or morass, is a type of wetland which is subject to frequent or continuous inundation. [1] Typically the water is shallow and features grasses, rushes, reeds, typhas, sedges, and other herbaceous plants. Woody plants will be low-growing shrubs. A marsh is different from a swamp, which has a greater proportion of open water surface and may be deeper than a marsh. In North America, the term swamp is used for wetland dominated by trees rather than grasses and low herbs. The water of a marsh can be fresh, brackish, or saline. Coastal marshes may be associated with estuaries, and are also along waterways between coastal barrier islands and the inner coast. The estuarine marsh, or tidal marsh, is often based on soils consisting of sandy bottoms or bay muds. An example is the Tantramar Marsh of eastern Canada. Marshes are critically important wildlife habitat, often serving as breeding grounds for a wide variety of animal life, particularly including ducks and geese. Decomposition of plant materials below water often produces marsh gas, which may begin to burn by self-ignition making mysterious lights known locally as Will o' the wisps, Jack-a-lanterns, or sprites.

18. Get that Roof checked!
May 29, 2008
When you're buying a condo, you may have a home inspection done as a matter of course. What some people don't realize, though, is that the roof of your condo is not generally included in a standard home inspection. This is important, because a roof that is damaged or wearing out can be an unexpected expense.
Take a look at the condo's roof. Looks like... a roof, doesn't it? If you're not a home inspector yourself, you probably won't be able to tell what kind of roof it is, how old it is, whether it's in need of repair and whether it's of good construction. Roof repair or replacement ... (read more)

useful and attractive remains a fine art. Many publishers are not obliging enough to publish their novels in complimentary colors. Your favorite books may look a little shabby, especially the paperbacks. Different sizes of books can be difficult to arrange attractively. However, there are ways that you can include your books in your decor without tossing out your old faithfuls or buying only books with blue covers.

24. What fireplace accessories do you need for your real fire?
May 19, 2008
Starting from where the coal comes from all the way to toasting marsh mellows on your real fire.
A coal hod is a container for coal. It is very similarly to a coal bucket but is normally a vertical cylinder with a slanted opening at the top to let you pour the coal onto the fire without the coal spilling onto the carpet or floor. I realize that in North American culture, the car reigns supreme. Unfortunately, so do the gas prices. If you can do something without driving, do it! Cycling and walking are much lower-cost and healthy ways of traveling short distances. If you outfit your bike with baskets or panniers and reusable shopping bags, you will be able to do small shopping trips. The same goes if you get a decent backpack (or bribe your kids to come along to carry grocery bags). The money you save can be put back into your home by purchasing energy-efficient appliances and equi... (read more)
